I am in a Master's of Education program through UVA where I am getting certified to be a Reading Specialist (exciting I know). I took TWO classes this summer...wooo! I took a class called Content Literacy in June which taught me how to integrate all the great Reading skills into every content area. I also took a class called Children's Literature in July where I learned how to incorporate ALL KINDS of books into my instruction and how to CELEBRATE diversity and differences through literature (so awesome). So most of my summer I was reading, writing papers, sitting in class, etc.
I did get to do some fun trips this summer as well. My husband and I went hiking for our anniversary (yay!) and it was beautiful! We got to go to the beach with my family and I also went to the beach to celebrate one of my best friend's getting married in November (I love weddings). I also got to spend time with my 11 month old nephew named Knox. He is so fun and laughs and smiles all the time. He is growing so fast!
The most exciting news that happened this summer is that my husband and I finally decided on a house we want to buy (eek)! It is the cutest farmhouse and I cannot wait to craft and start on DIY projects!
Now on to the changes at school I was talking about. Our school is currently under construction as we go through our renovation. It has been quite the experience! Our building is transitioning into a brand new, shiny, spectacular building and I couldn't be more excited! Also, I will not only be teaching fourth grade this year, but I am also teaching 5th grade science. I LOVE SCIENCE! I am beyond excited to get this year going! Follow us and stay tuned for more exciting news from our classroom :) Happy school year!
